Pen Yudel (Yuriy) Moiseyevitch, his Life and Works.
(It is in Russian, however I will
include a photo copy of supplemental information about Yehuda
Penn in English.) Minsk, 2006. 175 pages.
It is a true art book, large in size and
gorgeously printed. The quality of the paintings and paper is up to
date.
Contain more then 120 color paintings of
the best Russian-Jewish painter of the early XX century, where he
depicted scenes from everyday life (“Divorce”, “Writing of
letter to America”, “Rabbi visits the family of a merchant”) and
Jewish craftsmen(“Glazier”, Watchmaker” etc). Yehuda Penn was born
in Novoaleksandrovsk (Zarasai, Lithuania) and was killed in
Vitebsk in Belarussia in 1937. In 1870's he worked as a shop sign painter in Dvinsk, in 1880's
he studied in the Art
Academy in St. Petersburg, in 1887-1900 he frequently resided and
painted in Krustpils (Kreutzburg) in Latvia.

large number of less known talented painters.

Vladimir Likhodeyev.
“Synagogues” , album of old-time postcards.
Minsk:Riftour. 2007. 240 pages. Hard-cover.
This is my most preferable book which
contain 461 old-time postcards of 1880-1944 from China and
Russia, Byelorussia and Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, Poland
and Ukraine, Estonia and Finland, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan,
Uzbekistan and Moldova. There are pictures from hundreds of
towns: Slonim , Pruzhany, Warsaw, Lodz, Krakow, Moscow,
Petersburg, Libau, Kiyev, Derechin, Glubokoye, Kozhan-Gorodok,
Lunno, Baku, Balti, Kishinev, Strykow, Wieruszow, Zelechov,
Lvov, Goldingen, Parczev, Odessa, Lutsk, Stanislavov, Mstislavl,
Skaudvile, Kelme, Palanga etc. etc. The quality of printing is
so good that the postcards look like they are glued into the
book. There are pictures not only of buildings, but also of many
curious Jewish types.
Newspaper “Bielarussia today” (October
26, 2007) called this book “a true scoop, a very unique event of
the year in the domain of publishing”.
